Roman Conquests Map

Using the map on page 139 in 'Ancient World' name the underlined regions on your photocopied map. Lightly colour the conquered regions. Then neatly add this information in the boxes .

1 . Romans conquer neighbouring regions in Italy, Etruscans, Samnites & Greek colonies, by 250BC.

2. 250 -150 BC Carthage conquered and destroyed in three Punic Wars.

3. Spain conquered after Hannibal failed in his attack on Italy with elephants.

4.Southern Gaul taken after Punic Wars.

5. Greece conquered after its cities had supported Carthage.

Colour, cut out and glue onto a sheet of file paper your soldier according to the instructions at the top of the sheet. Then neatly add arrows and these labels:

Helmet with hinged cheek-guards.
Scarf to protect neck.
Shield made from strips of plywood covered with leather.
Pelum (javelin) with hinged tip to break on impact. Thrown at ten paces from enemy.
Plate-armour hinged together.

The Roman Peace

Using pages 148-149 in 'Ancient World' write a paragraph on the Roman Peace.Complete and colour the map of the Roman empire in AD 117 (that the surveillant will bring), using page 149.

Complete the labels on the Roman fortifications & Roads drawing and colour drawings:

  • Tower, spiked defences, ditch, hidden traps.
  • Cambered surface to drain rainwater, paving stones, gravel, sand, foundations.
