Name the densely populated areas where the arrows point:
Indian sub-continent, Java, East Asia, South-east Brazil,
West Africa, North-west Europe, North-east USA.

the words in heavy print and text box.( In the definition
of LEDC the word 'services' means banking, insurance,
tourism etc. In the definition of MEDC the word 'infrastructure'
means roads, railways, ports etc.)

top of page 46 revise birth rate, death rate and 'Transition
Theory'. Then revise the Population pyramids and text.

An Athenian citizen had to do two years military
service at the age of 18. If his family could afford
the armour and weapons he could become a hoplite , fighting
in a disciplined block called a phalanx. Every hoplite
had to protect, with his shield, the man on his left.
Never did the phalanx break up, even when the enemy
ran away.

of Greek Gods
You
and your partner have about 8 minutes to present your
God/Goddess on the dates below. Read and follow these
tips on how to present a topic to the class :
-
Make a poster to present your topic .
- Know your subject and explain it simply and clearly.
- Share the explanation, going back and forth between
you and your partner. Above all, don't start arguing
in front of the class!!
- Make your presentation short: maximum 8 minutes long,
followed by questions and comments from the class.
- Explain the topic to the class using the pictures
on your poster.Don't simply read text with your face
hidden behind a sheet of paper !
- Look at your classmates, not the teacher.
- Encourage the class to be involved by asking questions
or making a quick quiz at the end .

Parthenon
Have
a look at these pictures of the Parthenon : Parthenon
ruins Athena
inside the Parthenon.
Now
print off these notes for your file : Parthenon
notes. Finish drawing your photocopied Parthenon and
the three orders of Greek column. Write this paragraph
under your three columns :
The
columns of the Parthenon were built in the Doric style.
They appear heavy and solid. The Ionic style was much
lighter and slimmer. At the top were ' volutes' like
a woman's curled hair. The Corinthian style had leaves
spreading out at the top. Later the Romans preferred
this style and in Paris, London and other modern cities
, 'neo - classical' buildings usually have Corinthian
columns.

Homework for Mon 26th April
Greek Pottery
Carefully
decorate your Greek pot as realistically as possible with
a daily life, war, Gods or mythology theme. Use black
decoration on reddish brown (earlier pottery) or reddish
brown on black (later pottery). Don't forget the 'frieze'
decoration.
