4. Sand and glue the edge of the base. Press on the paper strip and hold
it in place with pins if necessary.
5. Measure and mark the central column at the correct length ( 8.5cms,
looking at the plan ).
6. Saw the wood at right angles . Hold the wood firmly with the flat palm
of your left hand and saw in long strokes with the right hand using all the
length of the saw. Be careful ! Never place left hand or fingers in front
of the saw! To begin the sawing it is easier to pull the saw backwards only
several times. This makes a neat groove in which to do the rest of the sawing,
backwards and forwards.
